The HOAX Quartet is one of Switzerland’s leading ensembles for contemporary guitar music. Since its founding in 2017, the quartet has been dedicated to expanding the repertoire for classical and electric guitars through close collaboration with composers.
Over the past years, HOAX has commissioned and premiered numerous new works, establishing itself as an important voice in the development of contemporary guitar repertoire in Switzerland. In projects such as RIFT, FEED, and RELIC, the quartet brings together new commissions and existing works. Each project is built around a distinct theme, exploring both musical and broader social questions.
The quartet’s repertoire includes works by Georg Friedrich Haas, Jannik Giger, Elena Rykova, Lara Stanic, Teresa Carrasco, Andrés Nuño de Buen, Demetre Gamsachurdia, Manuel Zwerger, Tobias Krebs, and others. HOAX performs in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria and regularly appears in concert series and festivals dedicated to contemporary music.
Guitarist Jinhee Kim is a professor at the Trossingen University of Music and, from 2026, principal study lecturer in guitar and music physiology at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Active internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, she performs with Duo Doppio, presenting her own transcriptions ranging from Rameau to Ginastera, and dedicates herself to contemporary music with ensembles such as HOAX and ÉRMA. An expert in musicians' health with a DAS in Music Physiology, she also regularly gives workshops and consultations for musicians and teachers.
Agustín Nazzetta is an Argentine guitarist based in Basel. Moving between classical and electric guitar, as a soloist and in chamber music, his repertoire ranges from the twentieth-century classics — Berio's Sequenza XI, Davidovsky's Synchronisms no. 10 for guitar and electronics — to free improvisation. He has worked with composers such as Jannik Giger, Elena Rykova and Santiago Diez Fischer, and has won first prizes at the Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano (Italy), the Guitar Festival Rust (Austria) and the Savarez-Corelli Chamber Music Competition (Salzburg). He trained at the Universidad Nacional de Artes in Buenos Aires, the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and the Musik-Akademie Basel.
Damiano Pisanello (*1990, Switzerland) studied guitar in Geneva and Basel, expanding his repertoire at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and the Segovia Academy in Pordenone. He has won numerous awards, including first prizes at the Concours International de Guitare d'Antony, Concorso di esecuzione Claxica, and Concurso International de Guitarra Clásica de Sevilla. As a soloist, he has performed with the Kammerorchester Basel and the Zürcher Kammerorchester. Pisanello is a member of the HOAX Quartet and has recorded his first album, "Orphenica Lyra," with the Contrastes Records label.
Tobias Krebs (*1993, Switzerland) is a composer and classical guitarist. From 2012 to 2019, he studied at the University of Music Basel and the Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium in Aarhus (DK), focusing on the interpretation of contemporary music. His compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles and interpreters both nationally and internationally, including the Zürcher Kammerorchester, ensemble recherche, ensemble proton bern, Calvino Trio, Gyre Ensemble, Ensemble Phoenix Basel, and soloists such as Pablo Márquez and Marcus Weiss.
